Children and adolescents sentenced to death, at risk of execution, or executed in Iran
Since the uprising of January 2026, the Islamic Republic of Iran has sentenced children to death. Some have already been hanged. Others are waiting.
The children and adolescents named below were aged eighteen or under when they were arrested. They were detained for taking part in protests. Against them, the state has brought charges that carry the death penalty — moharebeh (“waging war against God”) and efsad-e fel-arz (“corruption on earth”) — and in many cases the evidence consists of confessions extracted under torture, some of which have been broadcast on state television.
Article 37(a) of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and Article 6(5) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights both prohibit the death penalty for offences committed by anyone under eighteen. Both are binding on Iran. There is no exception in either instrument, and none in any circumstance.
We publish these names because a name is harder to ignore than a number.
